A youthful voice
The biggest problem of the Philippines now is not poverty, or corruption, or lack of peace and order. It is the apathy of its citizens to the plight of their country.
The PLDT-Smart Foundation, the advocacy arm of the biggest telecommunications brand in the country, believes that the Filipino youth has the innate power to spark change and rally the nation to a better future. The challenge is making them care enough to speak out.
“Ako Mismo” (I, Myself) is a movement where each Filipino can commit to what he can do for the country. The website gave the usually timid Filipinos a venue to express their nationalistic spirit with a statement that begins with “I, myself” (e.g., I myself will clean my own backyard). Beyond that, it brought together all their individual pledges in a wall of commitments that is an inspiring and encouraging indication that the nation can indeed be rebuilt one brick at a time.
